【What is GABA?】
GABA is short for Gamma-AminoButyric Acid. It is a type of amino acid naturally produced in the human brain. GABA carries an inhibitory effect, which means that it lowers neuron activity in one's brain and central nervous system, thus reducing one's stress levels and allowing one to relax. Trace amounts of GABA are also often found in most plants.

【What is GABA tea?】
In 1986, Japanese researcher Dr. Tsushida Tojiro unwittingly uncovered that, in a vacuum state, tea leaves consist of large amounts of GABA. In addition, professor Dr. Omori Masashi tested GABA tea and its effects and found GABA to lower blood pressure, relieve stress, and aid sleep.
Thus, in 1987, producers in Japan started promoting Gabaron as a soothing remedy that aids sleep in European and North American markets, making the tea a perfect fit for the aging, high-stress societies of developed countries and gaining recognition in these regions. Still, as the tea carries a tangy scent due to the fermentation of antioxidants, Gabaron has not yet gained popularity in Taiwan.

GABA tea is a relatively new type of tea with special health advantages. It was first produced in 1987 in Japan where it remains a very popular type of tea. The main compound is gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) - an amino acid that occurs naturally in the human body. GABA is the main inhibitory neurotransmitter found in the nervous system and also in the retina.
Taiwanese GABA tea is an all natural product. It is made from high-grade whole-leaf that is naturally rich in glutamic acid - the precursor to GABA. The processing involves exposing the fresh tea leaves to nitrogen gas under controlled conditions.
